The exhibition A thread without end presents an ever-evolving performance storytelling cycle by performer, visual artist, poet and researcher Ana Čavić.
We all carry stories within us and are the unconscious heirs of various storytelling traditions. The artist builds upon these traditions through her unique artistic approach, allowing visitors to have a personal experience while also opening up a space for a communal interpretation. The presented works are distinctly graphic, even when they take the form of papercuts, miniature ceramics, fans, wall tapestries, embroidered rugs and a storytelling costume. In her practise, Ana Čavić draws inspiration from the history of storytelling in various parts of the world. This is why the portability of her body of work, which could be packed into a suitcase, is crucial to her.
At the heart of the exhibition lies a mythopoetic creation story about two archetypal characters: a woman and an anthropomorphic fox. It is conceived as a Gesamtkunstwerk that transforms the gallery space into a performance in eight acts. It invites us to surrender to the moment and the magic of the everyday. This space can be a retreat or a refuge and, at the same time, a space for reflection, a sense of community and the envisioning of new collective horizons.
