Sašo Vrabič: New Plate Series
After more than twenty years, Sašo Vrabič has returned as a guest to the MGLC Print Studio. He has conceived an extensive series of prints entitled New Plate. The conceptually designed series brings together his interest in imaginative creation in at least three fields – those of images, sound/music and words.
The title of the series, New Plate, combines ad hoc the associations with the good old vinyl record plate and a printing matrix, which is often called precisely a printing plate. The entire series is printed on 31 cm x 31 cm paper, so paper the size of a record cover, which we know is the bearer of the visual message of the recorded music. An important starting point for understanding the "new plate" is also the fact that the series has been printed on Vrabič’s old prints that have been recycled and cut up. Many of them were made at the end of the 1990s precisely at the MGLC Print Studio.
The entire series consists of 159 prints and has been printed in the silkscreen printing technique. 12 of the prints have been printed as an indivisible whole – a visual album of individual impressions, as it were. All the rest could be understood as new samples of old songs. Actually, a release of an original vinyl record is also planned. It will accompany the indivisible whole and conceptually round off the joining of word, sound and image.
