National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia (MNSZS)
The exhibition The Beginning of Something Great marks the 70th anniversary of the 1st International Exhibition of Graphic Arts, which placed Ljubljana on the global art map in 1955. This groundbreaking event marked the beginning of the Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts – one of the oldest events of its kind in the world – which contributed significantly to international cultural exchange with Yugoslavia. The exhibition illuminates the broader socio-political and, above all, cultural context of the year 1955. It presents an interplay of materials from the 1st International Exhibition of Graphic Arts, artworks and photographs of concurrent economic, cultural and more notable exhibition events.
The exhibition is a collaboration between the International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC) and the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia (MNSZS).
The exhibition is part of the parallel programme of the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts. It was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the City of Ljubljana.
