Opening of the exhibition The Beginning of Something Great, The Year 1955 and the 1st International Exhibition of Graphic Arts

Event as part of the Opening Days of the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts (June 3–8)

The National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia and the International Centre of Graphic Arts cordially invite you to attend the opening of the temporary exhibition The Beginning of Something Great, The Year 1955 and the 1st International Exhibition of Graphic Arts.

The exhibition, featuring a rich selection of photographs and other materials, commemorates the 1st International Exhibition of Graphic Arts and presents the concurrent socio-cultural circumstances that accompanied the emergence of the Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts. The year 1955 marks the birth of this pivotal art event, as well as the opening of the first permanent exhibition at the Museum of National Liberation of the People's Republic of Slovenia, the predecessor of today's National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia.

Live musical accompaniment to the event will be provided by saxophonists Žan Gazvoda and Nejc Razpotnik, members of the cultural association Sekvoja.

The exhibition, which will be on view until 3 August 2025, is part of the parallel programme of the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts. It has been made possible by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the City of Ljubljana.

Authors of the exhibition: Gregor Dražil, Tina Fortič Jakopič, Katarina Jurjavčič, Karla Železnik
