The 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts
The Oracle: On Fantasy and Freedom
The exhibition guide to the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts offers an in-depth look into the conceptual world of The Oracle exhibition. It includes an introduction by Nevenka Šivavec, Director and Artistic Director of the International Centre of Graphic Arts, and presents the curatorial concept of the 36th edition, entrusted to curator Chus Martínez. As Artistic Director of this year’s Biennale, Martínez brings special value to the guide with an extensive curatorial essay on the exhibition, thoughtfully accompanied by descriptions of the art projects and presentations of the participating artists. The guide continues with a chapter dedicated to the print portfolio of the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts entitled The Print Portfolio as a Portable Prophecy. At the end, we learn about the Biennale’s parallel exhibition programme, which includes: the exhibition The Beginning of Something Great. The Year 1955 and the 1st International Exhibition of Graphic Arts; One Moon, One Sun, a solo exhibition by Tejswini Narayan Sonawane, the recipient of the Grand Prize of the 35th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts; the exhibition Sreda v sredo & friends by SVS (Wednesday Group), the recipients of the Audience Award of the 35th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts; and, There is no east or west, an exhibition event by Asad Raza.
The bilingual publication in Slovene and English also includes visual material, a concise venue map and essential visitor information. With its thoughtful structure and engaging design, it addresses a broad audience, raises important questions, and invites readers to actively experience the Biennale and its accompanying events.
"Every work of art, every exhibition, is also an oracle – a space where we can reflect on how to create the common good, how to realise a good life based on shared values. That is why the Biennale is an oracular place, a place of interpretation, a symbolic place where all beings question their lives and where they are headed."
Chus Martínez
