The catalogue to the exhibition presents prints and artists’ books of large scale from the MGLC collection. 54 works were exhibited, among which there were 47 prints and 7 artists’ books. Twenty-six artists took part in the exhibition. The largest works measured up to six meters in height and were undersigned by a series of world famous art names. The exhibition The Big Ones! showed some of the many ways in which artists take on the challenge of paintings, sculptures and installations, in order to create graphic works where the scale is dictated by artistic need rather than convenience or expectation that the graphic art print should be a modest work. These artists are part of a long tradition that has sought to defend the primacy of printmaking, and openly claim their space, which fits their creative expression. The exhibition also addressed the question as to when and why in the history of contemporary printmaking physically larger prints began to appear, what did the graphic arts gain through that, how was the dictionary of artistic notions expanded by that, which techniques were used and, of course, how was this perceived by the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts. The exhibition was curated by Breda Škrjanec.
