A Third Look. The Multiplicity of the Graphic Arts Today
The catalogue presents the exhibition A Third Look. The Multiplicity of the Graphic Arts Today, which included almost one hundred exhibited works by twenty-five artists, highlighting the diversity of contemporary Slovene graphic art production. By focusing on the role of printmaking in the context of contemporary art, it established connections between traditional printmaking and other reproducible art mediums. The exhibition highlighted the starting points and objectives of modern printmaking and other reproducible art, which depends on the development and availability of printing and communications technologies. The works were characterized by three different approaches. The first was represented by artists that work with traditional printmaking, who understand it as an independent and equal artistic expression with its own specific formal characteristics and rich expressive possibilities. A conceptual approach was more typical for the second group of artists, who see prints and reproduction as a whole that forms a story. The focus of these works was on reproducibility, on the repetition and hence intensification of the story itself. The last group consisted of artists that deal with publishing their own publications, especially artists’ books and original art newspapers. The exhibition was curated by Breda Škrjanec and Božidar Zrinski.
