The Rational Eye. Geometric, Optical, Kinetic and Programmed Art

The catalogue to the The Rational Eye exhibition summarizes the original positions of the creative principles of art stemming from mathematics and physics. The eye, the organ of vision, is to visual art the intelligent tool of the visual perception of the world, which perceives the seen and analyzes it with the mind. In 2005 the Absolutely Black and White group print portfolio was produced at MGLC, which includes fifteen screen-prints by fifteen artists. The portfolio was conceived by Getulio Alviani who also contributed as an artist. This is where the idea for the Rational Eye exhibition developed from, which would connect the latest graphic arts with the older production of geometric, programmed, systemic, kinetic and/or optical art. The exhibition was curated by Mirjam Behek.
