Riko Debenjak, Relentless Faith in Light and Matter

The work of Riko Debenjak belongs to the most important achievements of Slovenian modernist art and is one of the pillars of the canon of 20th-century art in Slovenia. He was a leading figure in the rebirth of the graphic medium after the end of the Second World War, an avid visual researcher and a respected university lecturer. In 2018, MGLC prepared a retrospective exhibition of Riko Debenjak, alongside which the idea of preparing a monograph also began to emerge. The book Riko Debenjak. Relentless Faith in Light and Matter is by far the most comprehensive publication on his life and work, offering rich visual material and in-depth analysis and reflection on various areas of his art practice: printmaking, painting, illustration, as well as caricature and artworks dedicated to the public space.
