André Pitol, Among Parables and Quilombismos

This lecture entitled Among Parables and Quilombismos departs from historical Brazilian exhibitions and contemporary artistic projects that reenact and transform these curatorial proposals. We hope to approach the critical interpretation of the modernist canon, the common curatorship approach and the diasporic artworks in an attempt to present some contemporary discussions that relate to the art scene in Brazil. The lecture is part of the From Biennale to Biennale events.

André Pitol (1989) is a São Paulo-based art researcher and curator whose work integrates research practice, courses and curatorial projects on photography, archives, arts and migrations, from an afrotrope perspective of art history. He holds a PhD in Visual Arts from the University of São Paulo. He was adjunct curator of Parable of Progress (São Paulo, 2022), co-conceptualised the School of Quilombismo (Berlin, 2023) and curated Edival Ramosa – New Totemic Construction (São Paulo, 2024).

The lecture is in English.
