Curatorial Guided Tour: Punctum. Unusual Art Autobiographies

The event is part of the Punctum. Unusual Art Autobiographies exhibition at MGLC Švicarija.

At the final guided tour, curator Dušan Dovč will be joined by Tomaž Dernovšek – Vinči, curator of the Museum of Too-modern Art, and artist Dean Ivandić. Together they will try to reveal how fiction, personal history and artistic practice intertwine in the works on display.

The artworks present unusual art autobiographies of the artists, who have made distinct yet impactful decisions in their lives and careers. What the artists, Dean Ivandić, Dušan Gerlica, Saša Bezjak, The Witch Twins and the Museum of Too-modern Art, have in common is the production of works in large quantities, spontaneous creative zeal and a marginal position in the art world. With their works in the spirit of the times, they transform their own autobiographies into autofiction founded on sincerity. Their strategies of self-presentation vary. The artists may be foregrounded (Saša Bezjak and Dean Ivandić), or erased from the visual narrative by a fantasy figure (The Witch Twins) or a group (The Too-modernists), and even withdrawn into their own selves (Dušan Gerlica). What all the works have in common is that they are documentary visual portraits, unusual art autobiographies.
