Dorotea Dolinšek selected for the Young Artists Residency at Švicarija

The public institution, the International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC), announced the Public Call for Applications for the Young Artists Residency at the Švicarija Residential and Creative Centre, with the aim of leasing a studio at Švicarija to a young artist up to the age of 35 for a period of two years (2026–2028).

The call closed on 28 February 2026. The expert committee, composed of Alenka Gregorič, Artistic Director of Cukrarna and Tobačna Gallery, Maja Hodošček, artist and curator at the Centre for Contemporary Arts Celje, and Jure Kirbiš, curator at Maribor Art Gallery, reviewed and evaluated thirteen applications.

In accordance with the call requirements, the expert committee assessed: the applicant’s professional references for the period 2023–2025 (solo exhibitions or self-initiated projects; participation in group exhibitions at recognised contemporary art venues; other activities; awards, recognitions, special mentions and acquired works), as well as media and professional responses to the applicant’s work to date, and the presentation of the proposed work programme for the residency period. Among the submitted applications, the committee awarded the highest score to artist Dorotea Dolinšek, who will become the new young artist-in-residence at Švicarija for a period of two years (2026–2028).

Statement of the expert committee

Artist Dorotea Dolinšek works in the field of contemporary research-based art and has demonstrated a high level of quality in her practice through her work as part of recognised organisations, projects and exhibitions to date. Furthermore, the committee recognises great potential for the artist’s further creative development, as well as that of the field, in the proposed programme for the Young Artists Residency at Švicarija. The committee was particularly convinced by the originality and relevance of the artist’s proposal, as well as the way the programme is conceived in relation to the location of the residency at the junction of Tivoli Park and Rožnik Hill. The proposed project, Station for Intersectional Communication, will establish a space for the artistic exploration of the local ecosystem from ecological, ontological and posthumanist perspectives, through a combination of fieldwork, feminist methodology and generative visual production, involving both human and non-human agents.

Biography

Dorotea Dolinšek works in the field of contemporary research-based art. At the heart of her artistic practice lies an interest in the universe, understood as a marginal ecological and political laboratory, which she juxtaposes with the increasingly extreme conditions on Earth. Through this conceptual lens, she explores the porous boundaries between the human and the non-human, the organic and the synthetic, and the intimate and the planetary. In 2019, she completed her BA in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice (Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia). She is currently completing her MA in Video and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in Ljubljana, and has also undertaken further study through the Ars Electronica University programme (2021) and as part of the FOUNDING LAB programme at IT:U in Linz (2023–2024). Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Kapelica Gallery (Ljubljana), KONTEJNER (Zagreb), no.default (Venice) and Layerjeva hiša (Kranj), among others. She has also participated in group exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb), Antre Peaux (Bourges) and Xcentre (Nova Gorica), as well as at festivals such as Ars Electronica (Linz), PIXELPOINT (Nova Gorica) and DA Fest (Sofia). In 2025, she exhibited at the SYMPTOMATICA I HORIZON Biennale of Art, Science and Technology in Beijing. Her work TerraPort is part of the collection and permanent installation of Catalyst Lab & Deep Vision at the European Patent Office in Munich, while her piece Ex.A.R.U. is part of the long-term exhibition Connected Earth at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz. In 2023, she was selected as a resident of the EMAP (European Media Art Platform) network at Ars Electronica. She has been collaborating regularly with the Kersnikova Institute since 2021.
