Slovenian Artists in Focus at the 6th International Printmaking Biennial in Čačak

The 6th International Printmaking Biennial opened in Čačak, Serbia, at the end of August. The "Focus" of the biennial presents a selection of works that stand out by both their concept and their formal approach to the medium of printmaking. Marko Šajn, David Kucler, Neža Jurman, Mladen Stropnik, Natalija Juhart Brglez and Leon Zuodar are artists, who distinguish themselves by their lucidly conceived content, quality preparation and execution of works. They successfully navigate between sincere self-expression and a clear critical stance towards the global social situation and the state of the art system. All works were produced in the MGLC Print Studio. Clearly, the "exploration" of the graphic medium in local studios and workshops continues to take centre stage and remains very relevant. One could even say that a fascinating production is currently "brewing" in Slovenia’s studios and workshops. Brane Širca, SVS group (Žiga Artnak, Urban Cerjak, Matic Flajs), Mitja Stanek and Monika Plemen are just a few examples of exceptional initiative, dedicated work and creative discipline. Their prints are technically highly refined, conceptually flawlessly planned and formally superbly executed.

The curator of the accompanying exhibition Focus – Slovenia is Božidar Zrinski, MGLC. This edition of the International Printmaking Biennial in Čačak will be on view until 30 September 2024.
